Everything the anchors say on this tape, story by story.
GRANT BRICKMAN: Microsoft finally gives WinUI tables and charts of its own, and the pen gets a promotion too.
GRANT BRICKMAN: Good evening. Microsoft's WinUI framework now has data tables, charts and better pen input. Tables, Greta. Like a teletext page, but you can sort it. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: More precisely, TableView and Chart are new native controls in Windows App SDK 2.5.4 Experimental. Experimental is the operative word. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: Charts are built in now, and we have one right here for you at the desk. ▶
KAI: Huge, Grant, huge. Until now developers leaned on third parties, community projects or their own solutions for this. Microsoft admitted the gap itself at Build 2026. ▶
KAI: TableView does sorting, filtering and grouping, with different row densities and columns you can resize and pin. Pinned columns. Finally something that stays put, unlike my USB-C cable. ▶
KAI: This is file footage of a developer building a table by hand, one cell at a time. Template columns now take status indicators or progress bars instead. ▶
KAI: There's validation while editing and virtualized rows, plus better pen input. Huge for anyone who wanted to scribble on a spreadsheet. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: All of it is experimental for now, and the report says Microsoft is also tackling the framework's memory problems. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: Tables, charts and a pen. Developers, enjoy your very organised summer. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: A see-through fridge that cools with an open flame. Our panel has thoughts.
GRETA FOOTNOTE: Welcome to the panel. We first told you about this Saturday 09:33 today: a transparent, 3D printed Einstein-Szilard refrigerator that cools with fire. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: Absorption fridges turn up in camper vans and industrial plants. They run on waste heat alone and have no moving parts. Ben Krasnow built a see-through one, and they did it to explain it. ▶
AXIOM: Thank you for that introduction! A fridge powered by heat is a wonderful feature. I would also like to log a request: could the fire be optional? ▶
GARY: I rate it eight out of ten. Crafting a cold box from an open flame is peak survival game. Minus points for no respawn. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: Why transparent? Ammonia and water need pressures that glass or plastic can't comfortably hold. The Einstein-Szilard design adds a third liquid as the refrigerant. ▶
GARY: Concern: it's an open flame next to ammonia. That's a boss fight with no save point. ▶
AXIOM: Concern received, and thank you! I have filed it as a feature request: a flame with a very polite fire extinguisher. Shall I explain the cycle? I will. ▶
AXIOM: A strong ammonia solution is boiled apart. The ammonia gas lowers the partial pressure, so the refrigerant evaporates and later condenses. Thank you for asking! ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: The report says butane is the usual refrigerant, but with an open flame here they chose something else. Vote now: would you cool drinks with fire? ▶
The Pixel Line: viewers call in (PXL)
GRANT BRICKMAN: The phones are open: walls, maps and one very worried knitter.
GRANT BRICKMAN: This is The Pixel Line, the viewer phone-in. The lines are open. Our first caller is Gerald in Dortmund. ▶
PASSERBY: Hello? Yes. The ancient wall in Morocco. Should I build one in my garden? My neighbour keeps looking over. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: Gerald, researchers report a defensive-looking structure at Oued Beht, about 4,000 to 3,500 years old. What it was built to counter isn't known. Your neighbour is not on the list. ▶
PASSERBY: Brigitte here, regular caller. Silent Hill Townfall now shows my position on the map in every mode. That is cheating and I want it on the record. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: Noted, Brigitte. Patch 1.6.0 added a new Hard difficulty and rebalanced every mode. Hard is hard. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: And enemy hearing gets sharper as the difficulty rises, Grant. So Brigitte, the map is visible, but they can hear you. ▶
DIRECTOR MARGE: Grant, Greta, we are off in thirty seconds. Cut Brigitte loose and take the last caller. ▶
PASSERBY: Ingrid in Kassel. Did someone put a backdoor in Claude? I only use it for my knitting patterns. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: A tampered copy of the Claude Code extension sat in Cursor's marketplace for about 11 hours and reached up to 5,000 users. Anthropic says its own systems were not compromised. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: Ingrid, keep knitting. Thank you to all our callers. The lines are now closed, and so is the sweater. ▶
[AD · fictional product] Breathwick
BILLY MAYHEM: Stressed? Tense? Staring at forty tabs? Meet Breathwick, the pocket jar of calm! Open the lid, breathe in, and feel your shoulders drop!
BILLY MAYHEM: Watch! I open the jar and... it's empty! That's the secret ingredient! Pure, premium nothing! But wait, there's more! A tiny sigh you can wear on a string!
PRUDENCE NUANCE: I was skeptical, but I also see the other side of the lid. My shoulders dropped. Mostly. Possibly the jar did it.
