Special Report: Update (PXL)
GRANT BRICKMAN: New words from Francis Lawrence on why Red Rising never worked out at Netflix.
GRANT BRICKMAN: Which part of the Red Rising plan did Netflix lack the courage for?
GRANT BRICKMAN: An update on our special report. There are new headlines, and the director is talking. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: Moviepilot has the story. Here is how the new headline reads. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: The report says a Red Rising adaptation has been in the works for 12 years. Lawrence explained the Netflix failure while promoting the new Hunger Games film. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: Twelve years. In television, that is one pilot season. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: The headline quote is "They never had the courage". Beyond that, we only have what the report says. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: A Munich startup wants your old wristwatch to do a smartwatch's job, with a sticker.
GRANT BRICKMAN: Good afternoon. A Munich startup called Azume has built a tiny health tracker that rides on the back of your ordinary wristwatch. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: It's called the Azume One. Thirty millimetres across, 2.8 thick, five grams. It's crowdfunding, so the usual caution applies. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: So it's a smartwatch for people who refuse to buy a smartwatch. I respect the stubbornness. ▶
ADA: Huge fan of the attachment trick. It uses a nano-suction surface of microscopic suction cells. No glue, no magnets, no residue. ▶
ADA: So you can peel it off and move it between compatible watches. Clever surface engineering, and it's a very tidy little disc. ▶
ADA: In this file footage we see the module and the soft nylon FitBand. Pop the sensor in and it sits against the skin for sleep, no watch needed. ▶
ADA: Inside: an optical PPG sensor and a motion sensor. It tracks heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen, skin temperature and stress, and sends it all over Bluetooth 5.4. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: The company claims up to 48 hours of battery, and apps on Android and iOS. Whether it delivers is for the backers to find out. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: Forty-eight hours. My old pager lasted longer, but it only ever told me one thing. ▶
