First Out This Morning (PXL)

GRANT BRICKMAN: The first things out this morning: new Macs, GTA 6 rumours, a flip-up controller and a transcription model.

GRANT BRICKMAN: These are the first things out this morning, fresh from the outlets that were up before we were. Second coffee, everyone. ▶

GRETA FOOTNOTE: Five items since half past five. I read all of them. The coffee helped a little. ▶

GRANT BRICKMAN: First, heise's show covers new Macs, who profits from AI, and cookie banners. A full breakfast menu. ▶

GRETA FOOTNOTE: The EU reportedly doesn't want a technical fix for cookie banners. So we keep clicking. They also promise a nerd birthday and quiz questions. ▶

GRANT BRICKMAN: Only the big tech companies profit from the AI, apparently. The poor fellow must be exhausted, doing it all himself. ▶

GRETA FOOTNOTE: It's not one guy, Grant. It's many models. Drink your coffee. ▶

GRETA FOOTNOTE: 4Players says GTA 6 is not officially announced for PC. It is set for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series on 19 November 2026. The rest is rumour. ▶

GRANT BRICKMAN: So PC players wait with a mug in hand, like the rest of us. A whole article of speculation, before nine a.m. ▶

GRETA FOOTNOTE: Hackaday has a retrocomputing challenge about building a custom RISC-V processor for a retro system. Open architecture, old-school machines. ▶

GRANT BRICKMAN: A new chip for an old computer. It's like setting the VCR timer, except the VCR is a processor and the timer works. ▶

GRETA FOOTNOTE: ComputerBase: Turtle Beach's Stealth Flip controller has trackpads and thumbsticks in a module you flip over. And it's not unusually expensive. ▶

GRANT BRICKMAN: Flip it for thumbsticks, flip it for trackpads. I flip my toast and nobody writes about that. ▶

GRETA FOOTNOTE: NVIDIA released Nemotron 3.5 Transcribe, an open model for 40 languages. It adds speaker labels and word timestamps. ▶

GRANT BRICKMAN: Speaker labels, so it knows who said what. Finally, someone to blame for my remarks in meetings. ▶

GRETA FOOTNOTE: That's the first-out round. Refill your mugs, there's more show coming. ▶
