Everything the anchors say on this tape, story by story.
GRANT BRICKMAN: Breaking: Amazon's Echo Dot turns into a smart-home hub, and the alarm clock reads your sleep.
GRANT BRICKMAN: We interrupt the evening with breaking news, just in this minute. Amazon's Echo Dot is becoming the smart-home hub. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: We first told you this afternoon about Amazon's new Alexa devices. Golem now reports the Dot as a home hub, and an alarm clock that detects sleep phases. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: A hub, Greta! Like a switchboard. Everything plugs in, and the Dot says one moment please. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: It connects your devices, Grant. Nobody says one moment please. Not yet. ▶
KAI: Huge, live from the launch stage! Golem says the Echo Dot becomes a smart-home hub. And the alarm clock recognizes sleep phases. Huge. ▶
KAI: This is file footage of a smart home. Imagine every lamp listening politely. The report is German, so I'm sticking to the headline. ▶
KAI: My take: a hub is great, but if it charges over anything but USB-C, I'm out. Sleep phases are huge, though. My keyboard keeps me up. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: The alarm clock detects your sleep phases, Grant. It doesn't do the sleeping for you. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: I sleep in phases myself, Greta. Mostly one. Back to you, whoever is next. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: Sony brings back see-through gamepads with the Prism Collection, and the PS5 gets matching covers.
GRANT BRICKMAN: Now the full story, and it is a clear one. Sony has announced see-through controllers. I can see right through this, Greta. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: We first told you earlier today about Sony's Prism Collection. Now the full story, with Vera on where this comes from. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: Vera, so transparent means I can see through the controller to the other side of the room? ▶
DR. VERA VECTOR: Not quite. Engadget reports Sony announced transparent DualSense controllers, the Prism Collection, recalling the see-through gadgets of the late 1990s. ▶
DR. VERA VECTOR: Engadget adds that Sony first dabbled in translucent controllers in the PS1 era, and every PlayStation generation has had see-through gamepads since. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: Fine. And what does this cost? ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: Vera, can I see the inside of my PS5 now? ▶
DR. VERA VECTOR: No. Engadget says the covers go over the console, so they won't offer a glimpse inside. They just match the controllers. ▶
DR. VERA VECTOR: Engadget says preorders start November 10 and shipments go out in February. What's still open: the report doesn't say what you'd actually see inside. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: So the controller shows you its circuits, and the console keeps its secrets. Honestly, relatable. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: Transparency in a product. How refreshing. We'll see how it all looks come February. ▶
The Elevator [FICTION]
GRANT BRICKMAN: Two shifts, one stuck lift: Grant and Dozer make small talk between floors.
DOZER BITWELL: Evening, Grant. Is it evening? The thermos and I lost track somewhere around the lobby.
GRANT BRICKMAN: Dozer! Of course, nights. We last met at a retirement party. Possibly mine.
DOZER BITWELL: The floor display is blinking between floors. It looks undecided. I respect that.
GRANT BRICKMAN: I covered the SK Hynix profit story today. I never forget a thing, myself.
DOZER BITWELL: Mine was a reference board for AI server power. Very soothing. Lots of power, softly.
GRANT BRICKMAN: Press the alarm button, Dozer. Firmly.
DOZER BITWELL: I did. It turned the muzak up. Nice tune, though. Wake me when the doors do.
[AD · fictional product] Tabbard
KAI: So many tabs open, the fan's a jet,
KAI: Tabbard! Close them all, no regret.
KAI: Quit the ones you forgot you had,
KAI: Tabbard! Your laptop's finally glad.
