Everything the anchors say on this tape, story by story.
GRANT BRICKMAN: SK Hynix posts a record quarter and says the memory shortage will run until 2030.
GRANT BRICKMAN: Now the full story. A memory maker has made so much money that we had to find a bigger screen. AXIOM, take us to the hall. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: We first told you this morning that SK Hynix expects memory shortages to last until 2030. Now the quarter's results are in. ▶
AXIOM: Thank you, Grant. SK Hynix reported record third-quarter results. Operating profit rose 632% from a year earlier to 83.3 trillion won. ▶
AXIOM: Revenue rose 328% to 104.6 trillion won. It is the first time quarterly sales have passed 100 trillion won. Happy to help with the zeros. ▶
AXIOM: The operating margin reached 80%. I am so pleased you asked. ▶
PASSERBY: I only wanted a bit more memory for my laptop. Apparently everybody did. ▶
AXIOM: Net profit was 39.8 trillion won, down 58% from 93.9 trillion won in the second quarter. A dip, in context. Thank you for noticing. ▶
AXIOM: It expects demand to outstrip supply through 2030. Long-term deals with 14 big customers cover over half its 2027 and 2028 capacity. ▶
AXIOM: HBM4 started shipping in volume this quarter, and the M15X plant will reach full capacity by the end of the year. Thank you for your attention. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: An eighty percent margin. In my day that would have been a typo, and we would have corrected it. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: Net profit fell 58% from the second quarter, Grant. It is in the article. Back to you. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: Hot Toys unveils a nearly two-foot Doomsday Sentinel for $330, with a catch.
GRANT BRICKMAN: Now the full story. A toy robot nearly two feet tall, from a film that has not even come out. Vera, I assume it needs its own board. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: It's a Hot Toys collectible of the Sentinel from Avengers: Doomsday. Vera has the details. ▶
DR. VERA VECTOR: Hot Toys just revealed its Sentinel from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The figure is almost two feet tall, 60 centimetres to be precise. ▶
DR. VERA VECTOR: Sentinels are towering robots meant to wreak havoc on heroes, and they showed up in the trailers. A collectible has to convey that scale. It costs $330. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: Two feet of robot for $330. Vera, is that a bargain or a ransom note? ▶
DR. VERA VECTOR: It is cheaper than some other recent Doomsday Hot Toys. The figure is double the size of a traditional one, but not double the price. ▶
DR. VERA VECTOR: The catch is on the inside. It is made of vinyl, so it is not quite as dense and substantive as its counterparts, though the outside looks the part. ▶
GRETA FOOTNOTE: So the size is real, and the vinyl is what keeps the price down. ▶
DR. VERA VECTOR: Analysis: scale is the selling point, and vinyl looks like how it stays at $330. Whether that trade suits a collector is an open question. ▶
GRANT BRICKMAN: An open question for the collectors at home. We thank Vera, and we move on. ▶
IT Helpdesk [FICTION]
GRANT BRICKMAN: The IT Helpdesk takes a call about a router, and the FCC's plan on jamming.
UNIT-7: IT Helpdesk, ticket PXL-3627. UNIT-7 speaking. I am definitely not sentient. How can I help?
AXIOM: Good evening, and thank you for holding! The caller says the pigeon-proof router has cut every phone in the studio off. A wonderful problem!
UNIT-7: It is not wonderful. The teleprompter has no signal either. Marge is very loud about it.
AXIOM: Relatedly, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr plans to let prisons jam cellphone signals. Jammers are generally banned, with few exceptions. Thank you for the context!
UNIT-7: So our router is doing a prison thing. Nobody asked it to. I will log that.
AXIOM: I suggest we unplug the router, reconnect it, and thank it for its service.
UNIT-7: Done. The phones work. The pigeon is sitting on the router and looks very pleased.
AXIOM: Ticket PXL-3627 is now closed. Thank you for calling, and please rate your experience!
